Bangalore November 20,2013: Sri R. Shivakumar, President, Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FKCCI) has constituted a separate Education and Knowledge Committee under a Chairman Education Committee, to address the issues relating to the students and the Educational system whereby the students when they Graduate will be potential Stake Holders of Trade and Industry.
It is generally felt that there is a gap between the University education and Industry expectation and in order to set right the present system, FKCCI has taken an initiative to bring Industrialists and Educationists to a common platform so as to bridge the said gap and be instrumental to change the syllabi according to the needs of the Industry. It is always desirable that an engineering graduate, from the very first day of joining the Industry, should prove to be productive and contribute to the growth of the Industry.
A seminar is being held in November 2013 inviting the captains of Industry & captains of engineering colleges in association with Vice Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and his team to interact and take the views and try to bridge the gap.
Generally Universities aim to excel in academics by giving basic academic knowledge but Industry expects the incumbent to be productive from day one and to have up-to-date knowledge in Industry. As Universities have semester system of working, there is no time for reviewing and changing the syllabi.
The Industry expects the University to develop the aptitude of Engineering Students to have inbuilt Research and creative abilities along with their basic Knowledge as well as develop their “Employability” and “Entrepreneurship”. It is observed that freshers from University lack in presentation skills, communication skills and working in groups for achieving the result oriented targets.
FKCCI requests the Industrialists, Educationists and Administrators to give their views so as to bridge the gap of University education and Industry expectation, which will facilitate to formulate expert advice to Universities and facilitate more and more effective Employment, Enlightenment, Empowerment and Entrepreneurship.
