New Delhi, July 17, 2014 – The Union Minister for MSME Shri Kalraj Mishra has asked the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) that an elaborate time bound action plan for revitalizing the KVI sector should be prepared. It should include:
• Best utilization of existing infrastructure & resources and its up- gradation.
• Economic sustainability on commercial line should be the focus without compromising the swadeshi spirit and legacy of Khadi.
• Efforts to be made to increase earning of artisans who are the backbone of Khadi activity.
• Build Khadi as a robust brand and ensure healthy supply chain to widen its presence in the market.
• A synergy between Khadi and Village Industries sector should be worked out to expand its presence in the domestic as well as overseas markets.
Direction in this regard was given by the Minister in a reviewed meeting held for revamping Khadi and Village Industries (KVI) and accelerating implementation of Khadi Reform and Development Programme (KRDP), an Asian Development Bank assisted programme.
During the review meeting the Minister said that there may be certain deficiencies in the past but the action plan must indicate how to negotiate those challenges and come out with concrete solution with a proper road map to start work from the day first and stressed that efforts should be made to encourage all concerned to realize optimum growth potential of KVI sector.
Shri Kalraj Mishra also stressed the need for working out a strategy for time bound implementation of the action plan with emphasis on physical monitoring of the programme and its regular review so as to ensure the results of the our efforts reach the intended target beneficiaries.
The Minister assured all that his full support will always be available for better implementation of schemes and programmes of KVIC.
