Specially-abled women dazzle with their amazing cultural performances
Mumbai, January 25, 2017: The National Girl Child Day is observed on 24th January every year to raise awareness about the importance of girl child in our society. To promote the position of specially-abled women in our society, Om Creations Trust put up dazzling performances at their premises in Mahalakshmi, Mumbai. The occasion was graced by Shri. Ramdas Athawale, Minister of State – Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.
The celebrations included a mix of dance and singing performances by the specially-abled women who were dressed in traditional attire. Specially-abled women also put up a collection of paintings and artifacts that showcased their inherent ‘special’ talent. Shri Ramdas Athawale appreciated them and also offered a helping hand in creating artifacts.
National Girl Child Day is normally associated with female infanticide and women’s empowerment through education and livelihood. However, the plight of specially-abled women, who are particularly vulnerable and marginalised, is still largely ignored by the society.
Dr. Radhike Khanna, Founder Trustee, Om Creations Trust, said, “We are honoured to host Shri. Ramdas Athawale ji on the eve of National Girl Child Day. The idea behind celebrating this day is to showcase the artistic and creative side of specially-abled women. The Mumbai-based NGO is a non-profit training project for holistic and educational rehabilitation of the specially-abled women.
