It is time we learned to be “Responsible in disposing plastic” and address the real problem of “Littering” and not the ban: Plastics Manufacturing bodies.

Hyderabad, July 15, 2018: South India’s biggest Plastic Expo “IPLAST ‘18” will be held in the city at Hitex from August for 4 Days from 3rd to 6th.

Disclosing this in a curtain raiser meet held in a city hotel on Tuesday night, Mr. Anil Reddy Vennam, Chairman, Advisory Committee of IPLEX 2018 said it is a 4 Day International Plastics Exposition, by far the biggest expo in South India. Spread over 12000 sq mts area, it will feature 350 plus exhibitors and will attract 30,000 business visitors. The expo is expected to generate US $ 100 million business.

Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce Dept, IT, Govt of Telangana graced the curtain raiser meeting and unveiled its promotional literature.

Addressing the 300 plus Plastics Industry gathering, the top official government of Telangana said Plastics is the oldest industry in the state. Telangana state is proud of Plastic industry.  Over the years, particularly in the last four years, the industry has shown remarkable progress in the state. Three lakh people are provided employment by this industry. I just heard from organisers that there is a 50% increase in the consumption of raw material by the plastic industry, he added.

Plastics is an industry with low entry barrier. Dalits and Bahujan Samaj community people progressed well in this industry, he said

TAAPMA, the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Plastics Manufacturing Industry has put forward couple of demands in front of the government. We met all most all their demands. They wanted an exclusive park for Plastics we have come up with Model Plastic Park. With the remaining 100 acres land at Mankhal-Thummalur will be allocated to SMEs, informed Jayesh Ranjan.

Making his remarks, FTAPCCI President Gowra Srinivas said, today, imagining a world without plastics is nearly impossible.  Plastics are increasingly used across the economy, serving as a key enabler for sectors as diverse as packaging, construction, transportation, healthcare and electronics.

Speaking further Gowra Srinivas observed that plastics now make up roughly 15% of a car4 by weight and about 50 of the Boeing Dreamliner.  Plastics have become workhorse material of the modern industry.  Their popularity has kept the industry growing for 50eyars. With global production surging from 15 million metric tons in 1964 to 311 million metric tons in 2014 and is projected to double to more than 600 million metric tons in the next 20 years.  That means, their use has increased twenty fold in the past half century and is expected to double again in the next 20years.

Given plastic packaging’s many benefits, banning is not the solution.  But, we must create an effective after use plastics economy, which is the cornerstone of the new plastics economy, Gowra Srinivas added.

Adding further, Anil Reddy Vennam said, Plastics is not mere a carry bag nor a single use article. 100 products are made out of polymer.  There are 20000 plastic units in and around Hyderabad and most of them are unorganized. Just 2000 units are organized.  We will obey whatever the government’s decision may be. But, before that please know what plastics does for the society, he said and showed some well researched Video to put forth his views.

According them Plastics is the material of the millennium. Plastics material is the greatest innovation on the earth.  Human directly benefitted from plastics in Agriculture, Healthcare, Transportation, Food Packaging and many areas. It is time we learned to be “Responsible in disposing plastic” and address the real problem of “Littering” and not the ban. “Collection and Segregation of plastic at source needs to be part of our daily basic human habits and lifestyles. Plastics is user friendly, but with it comes Collective Responsibility” of “Recycling Plastics”. Save Plastics. Let’s understand plastics better.

Paper is made from tress, cutting trees is bad for the environment. Should paper be banned? Automobiles requried fuel; buring petrol/diesel is bad for the environment.  Should vehicles be banned? Dry Cell batteries are made of harmful chemicals its incorrect disposal poisons the environment. Should Dry Cell Batteries be banned? Aluminium ‘Can’ production releases harmful chemicals in the environment. Should Aluminium cans be banned? Health hazards associated with Glass manufacturing process include noise, exposures to airborne disease like silicosis and silico-tuberculosis.  Should we ban glass? Plastics serve humanity to conserve non-renewable and natural resources like wood-paper, metals, water and energy.  Plastics should be conserved, recycled and not banned, Anil Reddy Vennam told the audience.

Welcoming the gathering and speaking on the occasion Mr. Venu Gopal Jasti, Convenior, IPLEX 2018 and President of TAAPMA said,  IPLEX is rotationally held once a year in major centers of South India-Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and Kochi. The event provides a common platform for participants in the plastic industry- manufactures, dealers, buyers and end-users. It helps visitors and industry stay updated with the latest technological trends, he added.

The 9th edition of  IPLEX’18, is supported by the industries across India & Globe. It has the patronage from the major polymer producers and Govt. of India along with local governments.

Plast India Foundation; AIPMA, Indian Plastics Federation; Indian Plastics Institution; Gujarat State Plastics Manufacturers Association and others.

Some of the exhibitors include: Gail India Ltd; ONGC Petro Additions Ltd; XL Plastics; Toshiba Machines; Sudhakar PVC Products Pvt Ltd; Kabra Extrusion Technik Ltd  etc and others.  Microplastics pollution is a great concern for all of us. We too discourage use of plastic bags. Mere banning without alternative solutions will be a futile effort.

“Let’s face it – plastic is here to stay”.  We depend upon plastics to such an extent that we would literally struggle to live without them. The fact that we are not very good at disposing of it shouldn’t stop us from using it. Recycling Plastics is the only way out, till such time world comes out with alternative material, informed the plastics manufacturing professionals gathered.
