Pune, Maharashtra, India, Tuesday, April 09, 2013 — (Business Wire India) — German certification major to issue certifications for three leading carbon standards

TÜV SÜD, today, announced the launch of its carbon related certification marks for Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) 2060, 2050 and ISO 14064. The company will now issue certifications to businesses after vigilantly auditing and verifying GHG assessment reports relevant to these standards.

PAS 2060 and PAS2050 was introduced by the British Standards Institution (BSI) to identify the authenticity of carbon neutrality and product level carbon footprinting claims respectively. This mechanism has helped businesses across the globe to effectively implement climate change mitigation measures. On the other hand ISO14064 was introduced by International Organisation for Standardization (ISO), for Green House Gas (GHG) accounting at organisation and project levels and have aided entities across the globe quantify and reduce their GHG emissions drastically.

Voluntary declarations of GHG emissions and neutrality claims are unregulated and pose a threat to the credibility of today’s Voluntary GHG regime. Governments across the globe are mandating consistency in the accounting of greenhouse gases. This has created a need for organisations that validate and certify these claims to help businesses adhere to the standards set by respective mechanisms. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bratin Roy, AVP and head, environment and energy services, TUV SUD South Asia said, “The launch of our certification marks is aimed at managing risks and partnering with our clients as they grow.”

At TÜV SÜD, over 80 experts are involved in the validation and verification of GHG projects, with a majority working towards the realization of CDM projects. Ever since the company’s foray in this space, the auditors at TÜV SÜD have processed more than 1,600 CDM verifications and validations.
